Databases
What is the differences between a production database and a decision-support database.
- A production database is used to collect operational/production data which is used to support standard organizational functions by providing reliable, timely and valid data.
- Supports the CRUD activities.
- Example: hospital admission system, student progression database
- A decision-support database is used as a repository from which information is retrieved for the purpose of organizational decision making
- Read only databases.
- Designed to facilitate the use of query tools or custom applications.
- Example: in a hospital a decision-support database may be needed to monitor patient admissions over many years. In a college a decision-support database may be needed to monitor enrollment and recruitment patterns.
